The Sainik School is a system school established in India and it is managed by the Sainik School Society under the Ministry of Defence. It was conceived in the year 1961 by V.K. Krishna Memon and after by the Defence of India. The main purpose of Sainik School is to prepare students mentally and physically to get admission to National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Naval Academy (INA). Sainik School along with one Rashtriya Indian Military College and five Rashtriya Military Schools gives around 25% to 30% officer cadets to NDA or INA. In the year 2021, there were 33 Sainik schools and MoD will establish 100 more boarding Sainik Schools.
The MoD run Sainik Schools run under a joint venture with the state governments. MoD offers annual funding and serves officers in the Principal role. The state government provides the land, the infrastructure, and other teachers and administrative employees.
The Sainik School is affiliated with the Central board of secondary education. And the school prepares children for NDA and INA. The students can take admission in Sainik School from 6th class. There is a reservation serve for SC/ST/ Armed force employees and ex-servicemen.
History of Sainik School
The main inspiration to set up the Sainik School came from Royal Indian Military College and Royal Indian Military School. The one RIMC and 5 RMS were established after the world was I by the British Colonial Military to cater to western-style education.
The Sainik School was established in the year 1960 and it was the first Sainik school and it was not run under the Sainik School Society. In the year 2008, the Finance Minister, P Chidambaram allocated 2 crores for the Sainik school, 25 lakh each. The motto of the school is to raise and promote the defense force, especially at the officer level.

Sainik School admission Admission Procedure
The admission is based on the entrance examination, for class 6th Maths, GK (Science and Social Science), language and intelligence and for class 11th Maths, Intelligence, English, General Science and Social Studies, followed by an interview and medical test.

Age Limit
The students who are interested in admission in class 6h should be 10-12 years as of 31 March in the admission. And the students who are taking admission in class 9th should be 13-15 years as of 31 March in the admission.
Reservation Policy
- 67% of the seats are reserved for the State/UT, where the Sainik School is located
- 33% of the seats are reserved for other states and union territories
- 15% seats are reserved for the SC of Home State/UT quota
- 7.5% seats are reserved for the ST of Home State/UT quota
- 27% seats are reserved for the OBC of Home State/UT quota

Date of Examination
The All India Sainik School Entrance Examination will be held in January. The National Testing Agency will conduct the entrance examination- All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination-2023 (AISSEE) on 9 January 2023 (Sunday) for class 6th and class 9th.
