Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is having a similar system if the central school. It is basically to promote education for the rural area in India. It is run by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, New Delhi. It is an autonomous organization under the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India. The Navodaya school is affiliated with the central board of secondary education from the class 6th to 12th standard.

History of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya
The idea to build Navodaya Vidyalaya was conceived by our former prime minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi. The main object of serving educators across the country is to uplift the education system of India. The concept of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in India was part of the national policy of education, 1986 with the positive aim to provide equal importance to the weaker section of the country. The Vidyalaya was established in the year 1985-86 at Jhajjar district, Haryana and Amravati, Maharashtra.

Enrollment Policy of the School
Eligibility Condition for Class 6th
- Candidates eligible only from the district where the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is open.
- For appearing in the selection test for class6th, the candidate should pass class 5th for the whole academic year. A candidate should successfully pass the previous class for promotion in class 6.
- The candidates should be of age 9 to 13 years. This is applicable for all category students, including SC/ST.
- The candidate who claims for the rural quota must have passed class 3rd, 4th and 5th from a government/ government-aided recognized school with a full one year of the academic calendar.
Reservation for rural SC/ST, OBC, Girls and Disabled Children
- At least 75% of seats are reserved for the rural candidates and the remaining seats are for the urban area candidates.
- The reservation seat is for the rural children, to give them equal opportunity in the field of education. 15% for SC and 7.5 % for ST. This reservation may change as per the situation.
- 27% of the seat is reserved for the OBC students. The OBC candidates are not included in the central list
- One-third seats are reserved for the girls
- There is a specific reservation for the disabled children as per GOI norms

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is affiliated to CBSE and provide free education to the talented student from class 6th to 12th. Every Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is a co-educational school with free boarding and loading, free school uniform, text books, stationery and free transport services. The minimal school fees of school is Rs.600/- per month for class 9th to 12th. The students who comes from ST/SC categories/ BPL family children or girl child get free education. The school education takes Rs.1500/- per month from those students whose parents are in government services.
